Zhou Wang, PhD

Director

Dr. Wang has spent the majority of his career delineating androgen action in the prostate.  His work has resulted in numerous grants, publications and awards, including a NIH/NIDDK MERIT award for research excellence.  Dr. Wang, in 1995, became an Assistant Professor of Urology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and in 2003 was named the O’Conner Family Research Professor of Urology.  In 2006, he was recruited to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to serve as Director of Urological Research in the Urology Department and Co-Leader of the Prostate Cancer Program (PCP) at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.  Dr. Wang is also the Principal Investigator for the Department of Urology T32 Postdoctoral Training Grant.  Through these positions, he has honed his ability to manage large, complex research programs that include basic, translational and clinical science.  As the Co-Leader of PCP, he is responsible for the facilitation of intra- and inter-programmatic research and collaborations, a key element of the IR-BU Center.  Moreover, throughout his career he has mentored numerous scientist; from graduate students to faculty.  As UPMC Chair in Urological Research, he has played a central role in the Faculty Career Development Committee and has guided the expansion of the Department with the recruitment of three new faculty members.  The combination of his research capabilities, mentoring experience and managerial skill make him the ideal person to serve as the overall Director of the Center as well as the Director of the Administrative Core.
