About

The Planning Centers for Interdisciplinary Research in Benign Urology (IR-BU) will focus solely on BPH and its clinical manifestation, lower uninary tract symptoms (LUTS). This disease, which affects many elderly men, can greatly decrease quality of life. With the aging of the American population, new strategies for prevention and treatment are urgently needed. The expertise of the IR-BU Center investigators include, androgen signaling in the prostate, steroid hormone receptor biology, lower urinary tract physiology, and clinical trials, lending itself to the study of BPH. As such, the investigators are able to use their expertise in their respective fields to develop highly innovative research to better understand BPH and LUTS, with the ultimate goal of having a clinical impact for BPH patients.
